Pratt & Whitney - Engineering & Technology Center
East Hartford, Connecticut
Engineering Technology
CHK Architects was appointed to design the new Pratt & Whitney Engineering & Technology Center in East Hartford Connecticut. CHK Architects design envisioned to respect the company’s history and reflect its position as a world leader in the design, development, manufacture, and service of aircraft engines.
The Engineering & Technology Center serves as the gateway to the site, reinforcing the concept that Pratt & Whitney began with innovative engineering. The award-winning LEED Gold five-story building of approximately 440,000 SF and is located near Pratt and Whitney's historic Hangar Museum and the Customer Training Center.
Contemporary Sculptural Element
The main entrance to the Pratt & Whitney building is covered with a canopy designed as a modern composition of glass and aluminum supported by a series of tube steel moment frames rotated at progressively steeper angles. As one gains access through this contemporary sculptural element, they pass through a massive masonry arch, again reinforcing the concept that an individual or company’s movement forward is always grounded in the past.
