Aetna Dining Facility
Hartford, Connecticut
Art Deco Architecture
Aetna retained top architectural firm CHK Architects to design its new employee dining facility within the footprint of the existing cafeteria, with phased-in construction so food service for employees could continue uninterrupted. The 65,000 SF space features Art Deco elements to complement interior details of the 1930s-era company headquarters building.
Dining Experience
The Aetna dining facility included are a 13,500 SF kitchen, a 14,500 SF servery, and a 37,000 SF dining area large enough to accommodate 1,500 guests. Diners enjoy a restaurant-like experience offering tables, booths, or bar height seating at high tops.
The booths are designed with integral privacy screens that subdivide the large space into a series of smaller, more intimate dining areas. Custom lighting adds to the ambience of the space. To support Aetna’s “Wellness Works” initiative, the servery features digital signage displaying nutritional information in addition to menu descriptions and pricing.
